About Me

    Asher Doubek is a visual artist born, raised, and educated in Boston, Massachusetts. Asher has been making art for as long as he can remember, with a graphic design professor for a father and an English tutor for a mother, art has always been a part of his life. That said, Asher's first explorations into original art were around 8 years old. He started with his father's Swiss Army knife and sticks in the backyard, carving little faces and beards into the bark. Repetition and further ideation meant that by 12, he was selling his now much-improved garden gnomes at a farm in Natick, MA. Asher was able to sell his carvings at Natic Community Organic Farm’s farmstand as part of his apprenticeship, a two-year program that teaches young people about agriculture. In Asher's last year of the apprenticeship program, he got his first commission. At only 14, he was asked to make a table for an apprentice fundraising auction. It was a big jump to go from carving little gnomes to a table that was going to be one of the most expensive items auctioned that year. Despite his nerves, this initial foray into furniture gave asher something very important, an appreciation for the combination of both form and function. Asher carries this appreciation and curiosity with him to this day, aspiring to make pieces that are not only rich in visual interest and beautiful form but also function well. 

    Today, Asher is enrolled at Boston Arts Academy as a studio arts major. In high school, Asher discovered a newfound love for not only 3D work but also 2D work. Acrylic, charcoal, and oil pastels are the 2D mediums he enjoys most, but Asher is always excited to try something new. He still works at Natick Community Organic Farm and has been a Teen Work Crew lead for 3 years now. In the future, he looks to continue his arts education in college and, hopefully, start a business for himself, making the furniture he has always been interested in.
